Our favorite events of the year are often not the fancy concours. They're any event filled with family, friends, and fellow enthusiasts who truly enjoy automotive culture as much as we do - and the John Martins Foundation show is always exactly that.

A big thank you to the Corvette Club of Rhode Island for awarding the 1917 Loco­mobile Model 48 Dual Cowl Sportif their President’s Choice Award and the Best Paint Award at their Corvettes & Classics Car Show this past Sunday!

We’d also like to thank them for the $250 donation to the RI Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Dick Shappy’s name, a nonprofit dear to his heart for his love of animals, especially dogs. It was a beautiful day with an impressive showing of vehicles benefiting Operation Stand Down and the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Thank you again!

Dick Shappy’s 1905 Cameron Four Cylinder wins the “Best In Show” Award at the 2026 Bay State Motor Festival at Framingham, Massachusetts, on June 21st, 2026

Dick Shappy was asked to participate in this year’s Bay State Motor Festival in keeping with the theme of this year’s event, “Vehicles produced in New Eng­land.” It was decided to display Shappy’s 1905 air-cooled, four cylinder Cameron produced in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, by the James Brown Com­pany. Approximately 250 vehicles were entered this year, and this 1905 Cameron was awarded “Best in Show.”

On Oc­to­ber 12th, 2025, the New Eng­land Con­cours d’Elegance hosted a landmark moment: the first-ever showing of Dick’s one-of-a-kind 1929 Duesen­berg Model J-268. This chassis, with its storied journey from junkyard to con­cours star, won the prestigious Grand Marshal Award, presented by Chasing Classic Cars host Wayne Carini.

Horseless Carriage Club of America 74th Annual New England Event

Redding, Connecticut - October 19, 2025

On Oc­to­ber 19, 2025, the Horseless Carriage Club of Amer­ica (HCCA) hosted its 74th annual event, a time capsule celebration of pre-1916 vehicles. Dick showcased his 1909 Loco­mobile Model 30 Touring, a Brass Era marvel, and won the prestigious “Best Preservation” award. The HCCA’s emphasis on originality and drivability was perfectly embodied by this factory-fresh, pristinely preserved vehicle.

2023 Audrain Concours d'Elegance and Motor Week

September 27 to October 1, 2023

The Audrain Mu­seum of New­port, Rhode Island knocked it out of the box again this year with the presentation of "Motor Week" which took place from Sep­tem­ber 27th to Oc­to­ber 1st. The public were treated to many seminars, tours, and cocktail parties. Bonhams sponsored an auction and guests enjoyed a huge banquet. The festivities were capped by the Con­cours d'Ele­gance on Sunday Oc­to­ber 1st.

A new class displaying motor­cycles was added to the Con­cours this year and I was asked to display my completely orig­inal 1911 Indian Single and my 1927 Super X "Big Bertha" Excelsior Hill Climber.
